This weekend is a holiday weekend and the beginning to summer in the eyes of many! How are you spending it? As your Katy real estate agent, I am here to fill you in on upcoming events and activities in the Katy area, this Memorial Day weekend and into June. See which of these activities interest you most and mark them in your calendar:

1.  Family Fish Camp takes place May 25 in Mary Jo Peckham Park in Katy. This is open to families and children six years of age and older, and you must register to attend. This free event teaches basic fishing, with actual fishing taking place the last hour. Fishing gear and bait will be provided if needed!

2.  May 26 is the Farmers Market at LaCenterra, which takes place the fourth Sunday of every month, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stock up on local produce and treats to go with your Memorial Day BBQ!

3.  Starting this weekend, Typhoon Texas Water Park will be open daily! For the past couple weeks, they have only been open on weekends. To celebrate, you can enjoy $20 admission on Friday, May 24. Numerous pools in the area will also be opening full time starting this weekend.

4.  Willow Fork Country Club is hosting a Pool Party on Monday, May 27. From 1 to 3 p.m., enjoy $1 hot dogs, nachos and SnoCones, plus games, prizes and a DJ.

5.  On Monday at 8 a.m., Monty Ballard YMCA at Cinco Ranch will host a Memorial Day Flag Ceremony. Those attending will receive a remembrance flag to name and place. If you cannot make it that day, you can visit the YMCA to name a flag, and it will be placed for you.

6.  Multiplicity in Katy hosts all sorts of crafting workshops, and during the month of June, all Studio Classes will be 20 percent off, due to nearby construction. Take advantage and try a class! Options include beaded jewelry, painted hand towels, sawing, wax carving, chalk paint and much more.

7.  Taste of LaCenterra will take place on Thursday, June 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. Enjoy small bites from new and established restaurants, along with wine, beer and cocktails, live music, silent auction and more. Proceeds will benefit Hope Impacts!

Why to Sell Your Katy Home This Spring

Katy TX Home Sellers

Time to sell in Katy, TX

Have you been wanting to sell your Katy TX home but have been holding off? As your Katy real estate agent, I am here to tell you that this spring season is the perfect time to sell! If you’ve got questions about the Katy real estate market, or you’re ready to begin the home-selling process, give me a call today!

If you’re still not sure that now is the right time, here is some current information to help you decide:

1.  The weather is perfect. Before the hot, sweaty days of summer arrive, the beautiful spring temperatures are the ideal conditions for Katy homebuyers. You can still open your windows and fill your home with fresh air for showings, or you can show off your air conditioner, but buyers are more willing to trek around town to showings and open houses when it isn’t so hot. Plus, buyers with kids would like to act now, while the kids are still in school, so they can be settled in or ready to move by summer.  If you’ve got kids as a seller, you probably feel the same way!

2.  The market conditions are ideal. Buyer demand is high right now, thanks to low interest rates! Mortgage rates have been hovering around their lowest levels since January 2018. Buyers want to take advantage, which is why buyer demand has steadily increased over the past three months. If you want to sell so you can move up to your dream home, sooner is better for you, too. The inventory of single-family homes is still lower than average, which means you’ll most likely experience a high volume of interested buyers. However, inventory is expected to increase, as 69 percent of people said they thought now was a good time to sell in a recent report. The sooner you sell, the less competition you might have to deal with from other sellers!

3.  You can get a head start. Even if seller competition does increase later this spring or summer, you can get a head start on other sellers by preparing your home for a sale now. This means cleaning, decluttering, neutralizing décor, making upgrades or repairs, and staging to sell. Contact me so we can discuss what steps you could take now to improve your chances of a fast sale later. These steps could all help your home sell faster and possibly at a higher price!

If you’d like to sell your Katy home this spring, give me a call, your Katy real estate agent! The sooner you contact me, the sooner we can discuss Katy real estate market conditions, your home-selling questions, what price to list your home for, marketing options for your home, and what first steps you should take as preparation. Then we can list your home and start showing it to interested buyers! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Katy is a city located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 11,775 at the 2000 census.

Katy, suburb of Houston, Texas, is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the name Cane Island are believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major sugar cane producer and rice producer. To commermorate the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.

Katy was recently the location of one of the ten large red balloons in the DARPA Network Challenge on December 5, 2009. The balloon was stationed in Katy Park.

In 2009 the Gadberry Group named Katy as one of nine "9 from 2009" most notable high growth areas in the United States.
After a low income apartment complex was proposed for development in an adjacent unincorporated area, in 2010 the Katy City Council passed a resolution stating that the development would decrease property values.[5] The plans for the complex were canceled.
