Shopping in Katy TX at LaCenterra

As your Katy real estate agent, I enjoy updating Katy residents on local events, activities, businesses, real estate and all information available about Katy! I also like to feature different businesses and attractions around town. If you’re new to the Katy area, I’d like to fill you in on LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch.

Cinco Ranch is one of the nation’s top-selling master planned communities, and LaCenterra resides inside the heart of Cinco Ranch. LaCenterra is a 34-acre, 300,000 square-foot development that is designed like a Main Street. It is located on the Grand Parkway, only three miles south of Interstate 10, so it’s easy to spot and easy to get to.

As a mixed-use development, you will find all sorts of well-known national retailers at LaCenterra, such as Talbots, Eddie Bauer, LOFT, Chico’s and many others. Restaurants include Bonefish Grill, Starbucks, Panera Bread, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, Nothing Bundt Cakes and many more. There are also many offices that reside at LaCenterra.

All sorts of different events and activities take place at LaCenterra! Heritage Square is where many of them take place, which is a central courtyard in LaCenterra. It’s the perfect venue for concerts, fundraisers and holiday celebrations, but it’s also just great for relaxing with a coffee or ice cream while taking a break from shopping or catching up with friends.

Central Green is another common area for events to take place. It’s a half-acre public park, complete with an outdoor stage, large oak trees and lots of outdoor seating.

Special events that take place at LaCenterra include summer festivals, job fairs, car shows, workout classes, holiday celebrations and plenty of shopping sales. If you need a job in Katy, Sephora is having a Job Fair this Saturday, July 25, beginning at noon.

Then on Sunday, July 26, is Houston Family Magazine’s Summer Fun Fest from noon to 4 p.m. Family-friendly activities will include arts and crafts, face painting, inflatables, a rock climbing wall, live music and performances on stage, and free goodie bags for attendees. 4th of July Celebrations in Katy, TX!

Katy Events

Two fireworks shows in Katy, TX for 4th of July

This Saturday is the 4th of July in Katy! Do you know where or how you’ll be celebrating? This is a great holiday for hosting a barbecue or pool party at your Katy home, but it’s also a great opportunity to get out and enjoy events and activities happening around town. Fortunately, in Katy, you have two options for watching a traditional fireworks display! There is also lots of entertainment available for kids and the whole family.

As your Katy real estate agent, I’ve summarized the details of two events happening around Katy for the 4th of July. Choose one, or swing by both, and enjoy your holiday!

Katy Freedom Celebration

The City of Katy collaborates with the Katy Fire Department, Katy Heritage Society and Heritage Park, VFW Lodge and Park and Katy Parks and Recreation to host a full day of events and activities all over town!

Gather the family and head to VFW Park between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. for bounce houses, games, soft serve ice cream and cotton candy. While the kids play, adults can bet on live and silent auction items, all benefitting VFW Lodge. There will also be visits from US Army and Marine representatives, vehicle extrications and more. When you get hungry, you can purchase a BBQ plate lunch.

Over at the Fire Station, your family can enjoy firehouse tours, water hose playtime and free hot dogs. In front of the Heritage homes, enjoy sipping on lemonade and taking family photos.

When evening arrives, head to Katy Mills Mall for the fireworks show! They will be launched from the grassy area between the mall and Katy Fort Bend Road. Katy Mills is open until 9 p.m., so get there early for dinner or shopping, and then hang out in your chairs or on blankets until the show, which begins at 9:30 p.m.

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch’s Independence Day Celebration

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch will have an Independence Day Celebration from 4:30 to 9:45 p.m. it begins with a Kids Patriotic Bike Parade at Central Green Park. Kids can participate by decorating their bikes with patriotic colors and décor beforehand, and then arriving at LaCenterra’s Courtyard at 4 p.m. Prizes will be given for having the most patriotic bikes. No pre-registration is required!

After the parade, live musical performances begin at 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard with Sheila Marshall and Chris Boss. Kids can enjoy the Kids Zone in Central Green, which includes inflatables, jugglers, stilt walkers, face painting, balloon art, a photo booth and much more. There will be food, such as burgers and hotdogs, to purchase for the whole family, along with beer, wine, soda and water.

The evening will conclude with a grand fireworks display, which will begin approximately at 9:15 p.m. Bring chairs, blankets and bug spray to enjoy the show!

As a Katy TX Real Estate agent, I always want to provide my clients with a well-rounded approach to the Katy TX Real Estate market.  This means providing pertinent information about the ins and outs of the market itself, along with what you can expect from living in Katy TX.  Choosing your home, especially if you’re relocating to Katy, means getting to know the area in which you’ll be living and making sure it’s a good fit with your lifestyle.

One of the things I appreciate about living and working in Katy TX is the way it’s growing and expanding to provide an even better way of life for its’ residents.  Recently, I heard about some new developments that will be taking place in Katy TX in 2014 that I’m excited about and sure you will be too!  Take a look at what’s coming to Katy TX!

Bullritos
24441 Katy Fwy Ste 500

– This well-loved Burritos and Tacos restaurant will be coming to Katy in the near future near Katy Mills Mall!   While there are three Bullritos in Houston, this will be the first installment in Katy.  Bullritos is known for it’s fresh and delicious burritos, tacos and tex mex options as well as its easy and unique ordering process!  To learn more about Bullritos, please visit their website.

Trader Joe’s
LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch

– Trader Joe’s is a quickly growing national chain that provides some of the best in fresh, domestic and imported foods at a fraction of the cost.  This specialty store will be opening at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, although the exact date and number of jobs this will provide hasn’t yet been announced.  One of the reasons Trader Joe’s is able to cut costs is by purchasing many items from manufacturers instead of distributors.

Trader Joe’s also provides their own line of Trader Joe’s products that are often free from preservatives and other artificial ingredients.  You’ll be able to find everything from your basics like milk and bread to unique, imported items that you can’t find anywhere else!  If Trader Joe’s is new to you, you can always check out their locations in Houston and get excited about the Katy store opening!

As you can see, Katy TX keeps growing and adding great features for its residents!

New Developments Continue Across Katy TX!

Screen Shot 2013-09-23 at 2.31.44 PM

Katy TX is constantly on the move and expanding with businesses and new homes all the time!  If you’re searching for a place to live that has it all, Katy TX is a great choice.  In working as a Katy TX Real Estate agent, I’ve had the privilege of seeing Katy blossom into a vibrant city and one that buyers are anxious to call “home.”

Residents of Katy are also enthusiastic about the continual growth of their city and the new restaurants, shops, expanding roads and ways to get involved in their community.

Speaking of which, have you been wondering what’s being built on Cinco Ranch Boulevard?  It’s been announced that in December of this year, they’ll be opening a Fuddrucker’s-Luby’s restaurant!

Now, you may be wondering why these two are being combined into one restaurant space, but this growing trend is taking off and customers are loving this combination!  The idea is that family’s will no longer have to choose between the two dining destinations.  It’s a win-win!  Parents can enjoy their finer dining dishes from Luby’s and kids can feast on delicious Fuddruckers’ burgers all on the same patio!  Or, some are opting to dine at Luby’s and head over to Fuddrucker’s for their mouth-watering shakes for dessert!

Luby’s owns and operates 93 cafeterias, mostly in Texas, with 33 in the Houston area. The company has 58 company-operated Fuddruckers restaurants and 125 franchised units nationally, including 15 in the local area.  If you’re looking to support local businesses and enjoy dining at either of these restaurants, you’ll enjoy this new development!

Of course, there are a number of other exciting changes and additions taking place throughout Katy, and my goal is to give you an idea of what’s happening throughout our great city.

If you don’t currently live in Katy TX, but have been considering moving to the area, I would love the opportunity to talk with you more!  I’ve enjoyed helping buyers navigate the Katy TX Real Estate market and have helped many find the home of their dreams in Katy.

Contact me today to get started with your Katy TX home search!  I look forward to hearing from you!

Made in the USA

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn’t slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American . . .

This probably sounds crazy, but just yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in China for $6.99. I didn’t want to pay that much so I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to another department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA . They are just as good.

Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some made in the USA and they were $3.00 cheaper. We are being brain washed that everything that comes from China and Mexico is cheaper. Not so. That is also why I don’t buy cards at Hallmark anymore. They are made in China and are expensive. I buy them at Dollar Tree….50 cents each and made in USA .

Check this out. I can verify this because I was in Lowe’s the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments… They were all made in China .  The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking …..

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else – even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track.. Let’s get behind her!

My grandson likes Hershey’s candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico … Now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything….
Good idea . . .. One light bulb at a time . . ..

This past weekend I was at Kroger . .. . I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets.  I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, ” Everyday Value …” I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats they were the same except For the price . . . The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE
Was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in – get ready for this – the USA in a company in Cleveland , Ohio.
So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here…

So on to another aisle – Bounce Dryer Sheets… Yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada … The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA – the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

Katy is a city located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 11,775 at the 2000 census.

Katy, suburb of Houston, Texas, is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the name Cane Island are believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major sugar cane producer and rice producer. To commermorate the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.

Katy was recently the location of one of the ten large red balloons in the DARPA Network Challenge on December 5, 2009. The balloon was stationed in Katy Park.

In 2009 the Gadberry Group named Katy as one of nine "9 from 2009" most notable high growth areas in the United States.
After a low income apartment complex was proposed for development in an adjacent unincorporated area, in 2010 the Katy City Council passed a resolution stating that the development would decrease property values.[5] The plans for the complex were canceled.
