How to Celebrate Father’s Day in Katy TX

Katy TX Father's Day

Katy TX Father’s Day Activities

This coming weekend is Father’s Day, so if you don’t have a plan for celebrating dad yet, as your Katy real estate agent, I’ve put together a guide to help you plan! While you may have to think a little more creatively this year, there are still plenty of great ways to celebrate dad in or near Katy TX:

1.  Go camping. We’ve all been cooped up at home, so this weekend is a great opportunity to go camping as a family and spend all your time outdoors! Some nearby camping options include Huntsville State Park, Livingston State Park, Dinosaur Valley State Park, Galveston Island State Park, Jellystone Park & Campgrounds, and more. These range anywhere from less than an hour from Katy, to four hours away.

2.  If you don’t want to commit to a whole weekend of camping, another great option is to get up early and plan a hike or bike ride on a nearby trail! You’ve got options in Cross Creek Ranch, Cinco Ranch, Elyson and more. You could also head to a nearby park, such as Bear Creek Park, Cullen Park, Eagle Ranch West Pocket Park, Fry Road Park and others. Find a whole list here!

3.  If dad doesn’t feel like grilling this weekend, take him to ErmaRose Winery in North Katy for some wine and BBQ! Daddy Duncan’s BBQ food truck now has a permanent location at the winery and will be serving up delicious food every Friday and Saturday night starting at 5 p.m.

4.  How long has it been since dad has been out to dinner at a restaurant? Effective June 12, restaurants are able to be open for dine-in at 75 percent occupancy. If dad has a favorite Katy restaurant, call ahead to make sure they are open and try to make a reservation. Here is a list of restaurants open at LaCenterra. There is still the option of takeout or delivery as well, to enjoy at home!

5.  Head to a pool to cool off, or head to Typhoon Texas for some water park fun! If you plan to visit Typhoon Texas, you must call ahead and make reservations. If you plan on visiting a community pool or public pool, visit the website or call ahead to see if there are any special requirements you need to follow right now.

6.  Enjoy a staycation at home. If you’d rather stay safe at home, there are plenty of ways to have fun while doing so this Father’s Day. Make dad his favorite meal, or have dad grill his favorite food in the backyard. Play yard games, watch dad’s favorite movie together, go camping in your backyard, splash around in your pool if you have one, cook s’mores in a fire pit, go for a bike ride around your neighborhood. Do whatever dad loves most!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! If you’ve got goals this summer for buying/selling in the Katy real estate market, give me a call. As your Katy real estate agent, I am here and ready to help you out!

What To Do This Memorial Day Weekend in Katy TX

Katy TX Realtor

Katy TX Memorial Day Activities

This weekend is Memorial Day, the unofficial start to summer in Katy TX, but it’s not the usual weekend of festivals and events due to COVID-19 closures and cancellations. Still, as your Katy real estate agent, I am here to fill you in on some fun options you have for your holiday weekend. Make the most of it and get excited for the summer season!

1.  Sign up for the Remember the Fallen Virtual 21K Run Walk and get your exercise in for a great cause! This run pays tribute to those who have died in service to our country. Once you register, a race packet will be mailed to you. Choose any location to run or walk your race, indoors or outdoors, and then submit your results for medals and bragging rights. You’ve got until June 15 to complete it!

2.  Restaurants and shops in Katy TX are open for business at 25 percent capacity. It’s wise to call your favorite local business to see what your options are, and if reservations are needed. LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch has a list of restaurants open for dine-in and stores open for shoppers available on their website. Restaurants are still open for curbside, pickup or delivery as well, grab some food and have a picnic at a park or in your backyard!

3.  Head outside for some fresh air at local parks or trails. The paths are open for walking and biking, making it a great option for family activity this weekend. Here’s a list of walking trails within Katy city limits, and here’s a list of hiking trails near Katy. Practice social distancing and plan ahead, as playgrounds, bathrooms and pavilions are still closed at this time.

4.  Enjoy other outdoor activities. Some sports and recreation activities have resumed, with only four participants at a time, such as pools and tennis courts. If you live in a community, check with your HOA or clubhouse for rules specific to your community, or call your favorite public amenity for the latest updates. If you have a backyard pool, this weekend is a great opportunity to open it!

5.  Speaking of home, this weekend is also a great time to accomplish some of the home maintenance or home improvement projects you’ve been wanting to do. Spend time outdoors pruning trees and shrubs, planting gardens, fertilizing lawn, and cleaning grill and outdoor furniture. You might be spending a lot of time in your backyard this summer! Inside, seal any gaps around windows for better energy efficiency, clean ceiling fans, inspect air conditioner, etc.

Enjoy your weekend and the start of summer. Get creative with activities to keep you busy! If you have buying/selling goals you’d like to achieve in the Katy real estate market this summer, give me a call, your Katy real estate agent. I am here to answer any questions you may have, and to guide you through the entire process!

Virtual fitness options in Katy

There are so many virtual offerings online right now, you might not even know where to start! One great place to start is locally. Many local businesses and nonprofits are hosting virtual offerings, so as your Katy real estate agent, I am here to fill you in on some of these. They are a great way to help support local businesses during this difficult time!

1.  Katy’s Brookwood Community is a local nonprofit that depends on sales of numerous items and events, many which are not happening right now. Help support them by heading to their website to view all of their available products that are for sale. They are all 20 percent off plus free shipping through April 30. The Brookwood Community Garden Center is also offering a 20 percent discount and is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Their cafe is open for to-go orders from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

2.  This coming weekend is the annual Smilin’ Rylen Run, which benefits LifeGift, Ronald McDonald House Houston, Emma’s Hugs and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. You can still sign up for this event through April 24, as it will occur virtually this year. Participants can run anytime and anywhere as long as they meet their 5K or 1-mile distance. Races must be submitted by May 15 to receive a medal and race bag.

3.  Houston Zoo is celebrating Earth Day with virtual events all this week. From 11 to 11:30 a.m., head to their Facebook page for Facebook Live events, where you can view different animal and nature exhibits and learn more about them. They also have an Earth Day challenge happening, where you can win a free zoo membership.

4.  Houston Ballet’s Nutcracker Market was canceled, so they set up a Virtual 2020 Nutcracker Marketplace on Facebook! Join the group to view what each of the merchants has available to purchase this season. One hundred percent of all sales from the group go directly to each merchant. This will run through the end of this month.

5.  There are many ways to take virtual workout classes from local Katy businesses. Options include Vibe Fitness, who has a group portal with workouts and more, Pure Barre, who offers one week of unlimited livestream classes, free virtual workouts on the Villa Sport Athletic Club and Spa’s website, and many more. How You Can Help During COVID-19 Outbreak in Katy TX

Katy TX Coronavirus updates

Adopt or foster a pet in Katy TX

Spring has sprung in Katy TX, but it doesn’t look quite like we thought it would! With most of the city shut down for the time being, to help stop the spread of COVID-19, you might be wondering how to fill your time at home, and also what you can do to help businesses and community members, if you are healthy and well. As your Katy real estate agent, I am here to fill you in on some of your options!

1.  If you have food to spare, you can donate to the Katy Christian Ministries food pantry, which serves about 140 families per day. If you don’t want to leave your home, you can even ship your donations. If you do drop off, hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They are mostly in need of canned meats, canned fruit, rice/pasta, cereals, shampoo, deodorant, bar soap, diapers, baby wipes and powdered laundry soap.

2.  Donate money to Meals on Wheels, which delivers food to housebound Houston-area seniors, who are one of the groups most at risk to COVID-19. Meals on Wheels has accelerated its food deliveries and needs help raising funds. It’s also looking for volunteers to help deliver supplies, and to check in with seniors in the community and offer support over the phone.

3.  Continue to support your favorite local businesses in Katy TX however you can! Many restaurants are offering takeout, delivery or curbside pickup options right now, even if they don’t normally offer takeout. Call your favorite restaurants and see what they are offering and how you can order. If your favorite businesses are shops or services, call or visit their websites to see if they offer online shopping. If not, you can purchase gift cards for the future, to help keep them afloat right now.

4.  Adopt or foster a pet! Social distancing is putting a strain on all businesses, and this includes animal rescues and shelters. If you find yourself working from home, or homeschooling your kids, your family might have more time to care for a pet than otherwise. Shelters may run low on supplies, or volunteers to help run them, so now is a great time to care for a pet, whether it’s temporary or permanent. It’s also a great way to improve the spirits of your family members while stuck at home!

5.  Check in on neighbors, family and friends. You can do your part just by checking in with those you know and love in your community. See if there are any seniors, pregnant women or anyone immunocompromised that you could grocery shop for, or cook for, or just offer support and conversation to during this time. Video chat with anyone you know who lives alone, or anyone feeling the emotional burden of this experience. Offer to watch kids of friends or family who have to continue working while the kids are at home. We are all in this together!

If there is anything I can do for you during this time, don’t hesitate to reach out! If you would still like to accomplish your Katy real estate goals this spring, give me a call. Real estate never stops, and we are still here to help you with your home-selling and/or home-buying needs. Contact us today! Stay healthy!

Katy is a city located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 11,775 at the 2000 census.

Katy, suburb of Houston, Texas, is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the name Cane Island are believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major sugar cane producer and rice producer. To commermorate the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.

Katy was recently the location of one of the ten large red balloons in the DARPA Network Challenge on December 5, 2009. The balloon was stationed in Katy Park.

In 2009 the Gadberry Group named Katy as one of nine "9 from 2009" most notable high growth areas in the United States.
After a low income apartment complex was proposed for development in an adjacent unincorporated area, in 2010 the Katy City Council passed a resolution stating that the development would decrease property values.[5] The plans for the complex were canceled.
