Two fireworks shows in Katy, TX for 4th of July

This Saturday is the 4th of July in Katy! Do you know where or how you’ll be celebrating? This is a great holiday for hosting a barbecue or pool party at your Katy home, but it’s also a great opportunity to get out and enjoy events and activities happening around town. Fortunately, in Katy, you have two options for watching a traditional fireworks display! There is also lots of entertainment available for kids and the whole family.

As your Katy real estate agent, I’ve summarized the details of two events happening around Katy for the 4th of July. Choose one, or swing by both, and enjoy your holiday!

Katy Freedom Celebration

The City of Katy collaborates with the Katy Fire Department, Katy Heritage Society and Heritage Park, VFW Lodge and Park and Katy Parks and Recreation to host a full day of events and activities all over town!

Gather the family and head to VFW Park between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. for bounce houses, games, soft serve ice cream and cotton candy. While the kids play, adults can bet on live and silent auction items, all benefitting VFW Lodge. There will also be visits from US Army and Marine representatives, vehicle extrications and more. When you get hungry, you can purchase a BBQ plate lunch.

Over at the Fire Station, your family can enjoy firehouse tours, water hose playtime and free hot dogs. In front of the Heritage homes, enjoy sipping on lemonade and taking family photos.

When evening arrives, head to Katy Mills Mall for the fireworks show! They will be launched from the grassy area between the mall and Katy Fort Bend Road. Katy Mills is open until 9 p.m., so get there early for dinner or shopping, and then hang out in your chairs or on blankets until the show, which begins at 9:30 p.m.

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch’s Independence Day Celebration

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch will have an Independence Day Celebration from 4:30 to 9:45 p.m. it begins with a Kids Patriotic Bike Parade at Central Green Park. Kids can participate by decorating their bikes with patriotic colors and décor beforehand, and then arriving at LaCenterra’s Courtyard at 4 p.m. Prizes will be given for having the most patriotic bikes. No pre-registration is required!

After the parade, live musical performances begin at 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard with Sheila Marshall and Chris Boss. Kids can enjoy the Kids Zone in Central Green, which includes inflatables, jugglers, stilt walkers, face painting, balloon art, a photo booth and much more. There will be food, such as burgers and hotdogs, to purchase for the whole family, along with beer, wine, soda and water.

The evening will conclude with a grand fireworks display, which will begin approximately at 9:15 p.m. Bring chairs, blankets and bug spray to enjoy the show!

Katy Events

Wild West Beer Fest in Katy

Beer fans will unite at this weekend’s Beer Fest in Katy, TX! As your Katy real estate agent, I’d like to fill you in on the details of this fest, hosted by the Katy Rotary Club. Not only does it bring the community together for a day of beer sampling, food, music and socializing, but it’s all for a great cause. Proceeds go to Katy ISD programs and local charities.

The Wild West Beer Fest will take place this Saturday, May 2, at Katy Mills Mall from 3 to 9 p.m. At the main event, you can choose from more than 200 beers to sample from all over the world. While you sip, sample and socialize, you can also enjoy live music from country artists J.T. Hodges, Curtis Grimes and others.

You’ll receive one drink card with purchase of ticket, which is good for 12 two-ounce beer samples. If you’d like more, you can purchase extra drink cards for $9 ahead of time on the website or at the event.

There is also a launch party on Friday, May 1, from 7 to 10 p.m., where you can sample special beers ahead of the main event. This includes a new and unique beer that you cannot find anywhere else in town! Limited tickets will be sold for this event. They cost $30 and include a special pint glass, beer, food and music by Kaos.

If you purchase a VIP ticket to the main event, you get in one hour early, and you get access to the VIP area stocked with premium/specialty beers and complimentary food.

Tickets cost $30 for general admission or $25 for designated drivers. There are also many hotels in walking distance, and many of them are featuring a group discount rate on May 1 and 2. Tickets to both the launch party and main event cost $60. Some of the ticket options are already sold out, so don’t wait to buy!

This fest is 100 percent nonprofit and volunteer run, so if you’d like to volunteer, contact the Katy Rotary Club! It’s no wonder that BeerYeti.com named Wild West Beer Fest as the second best beer event in the country, only second to the largest beer fest in Denver.

Enjoy the Wild West Beer Fest this weekend in Katy! When you’re ready to buy a Katy area home, or ready to sell your Katy area home, contact me, your Katy real estate agent. I’d love to help you accomplish your local real estate goals!

Have Three Days of Fun at the Katy, TX Crawfish Festival!

One of the things that we love most about being Katy, TX real estate agents is the many different ways that our community comes together to celebrate. This year is no different, as we have found a way to pay tribute to one of the South’s main food delicacies: crawfish! Between this Friday, March 30th and Sunday, April 1st, you can be part of the very first Katy, TX Crawfish Festival. We don’t know about you, but three days of carnival games, rides, food, live music and fun just sounds too great to pass up. As your Katy, TX real estate and community resource, we wanted to send everyone a reminder about this event in order to keep our neighborhood in-the-know about one of our town’s most exciting events to date.

Are you familiar with the term “Lagniappe?” It’s a Cajun term that is commonly used to refer to a small gift or a little “something extra.” Between all of the amazing live entertainment that is lined up and all of the surprises in store for festival attendees, it only seems fitting that Lagniappe would be the theme for Katy’s first Crawfish Festival. This event is meant for fun and games, but it’s also going to benefit a fantastic cause. These festivities will be sponsored by Acadiana Group, a non-profit group which donates 100% of its proceeds to local charities. Not only will you be able to enjoy the fun, but you’ll be able to give back to Katy, TX just by buying a ticket and attending the event.

The weekend promises to be fun from the get-go, particularly since there are so many local bands found in the Houston, TX area comprising the live music line-up. Some acts that you can expect to see performing at the festival include Aaron Watson, Joe Nichols and Robert Earl Keen. You can also expect to see over 100 community arts & crafts vendors as well as many commercial exhibitors. The dedication shown by Acadiana Group in order to make this event successful has culminated in the ideal community celebration where you can shop ‘til you drop, ride amazing carnival attractions and listen to local acts. This will be an event that you won’t want to miss!

Located just south of I-10 on Katy Ft. Bend Road, (near the Katy Mills Mall), the Crawfish Festival is going to be held at a convenient location for many in the area. Tickets are relatively inexpensive too, priced at $17.00 for an adult three-day pass and $8.00 for a child three-day pass. With reasonable prices, a convenient location AND the opportunity to give back to those in need in Katy, we can’t think of a good reason NOT to go to the festival! It’ll be a great way for the community to come together, and you can be part of an event that will hopefully become a part of Katy, TX’s tradition.

If you have any questions about the first annual Katy, TX Crawfish Festival, don’t hesitate to contact us! As your Katy, TX real estate agents, we are happy to keep you informed about the latest community events and act as your neighborhood resource. We hope to hear from you soon!

Made in the USA

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn’t slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American . . .

This probably sounds crazy, but just yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in China for $6.99. I didn’t want to pay that much so I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to another department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA . They are just as good.

Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some made in the USA and they were $3.00 cheaper. We are being brain washed that everything that comes from China and Mexico is cheaper. Not so. That is also why I don’t buy cards at Hallmark anymore. They are made in China and are expensive. I buy them at Dollar Tree….50 cents each and made in USA .

Check this out. I can verify this because I was in Lowe’s the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments… They were all made in China .  The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking …..

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else – even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track.. Let’s get behind her!

My grandson likes Hershey’s candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico … Now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything….
Good idea . . .. One light bulb at a time . . ..

This past weekend I was at Kroger . .. . I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets.  I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, ” Everyday Value …” I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats they were the same except For the price . . . The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE
Was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in – get ready for this – the USA in a company in Cleveland , Ohio.
So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here…

So on to another aisle – Bounce Dryer Sheets… Yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada … The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA – the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

Katy is a city located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 11,775 at the 2000 census.

Katy, suburb of Houston, Texas, is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the name Cane Island are believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major sugar cane producer and rice producer. To commermorate the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.

Katy was recently the location of one of the ten large red balloons in the DARPA Network Challenge on December 5, 2009. The balloon was stationed in Katy Park.

In 2009 the Gadberry Group named Katy as one of nine "9 from 2009" most notable high growth areas in the United States.
After a low income apartment complex was proposed for development in an adjacent unincorporated area, in 2010 the Katy City Council passed a resolution stating that the development would decrease property values.[5] The plans for the complex were canceled.
