Upcoming Katy, TX Events!

runningKaty, TX is getting warmer and greener as spring is in its prime and Earth Day is upon us! Whether looking for an outdoor run, a fun kid’s craft, or a relaxing movie or theatrical production, you’ve come to the right place. As your Katy real estate agent, I’ve put together this list of upcoming events for you to enjoy in and around Katy, TX this month:

  • Today, LIFE Church and the A.D. Players will present the classic tale of ‘The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe,’ a beloved story about Narnia, a world beyond ours with the age-old conflict between good and evil. This is free and open to the public, but tickets needed to be reserved ahead of time!
  • This Saturday, April 14, head to Tompkins High School bright and early for the Cow Patty Classic 5K/10K! Wear your best bovine attire and enjoy a run, jog or walk that will benefit the OTHS FFA Student Chapter. Packet pickup is this Thursday. Adult registration is $25 and $15 for students 18 and under.
  • Chick-fil-A has their monthly events coming up mid-month! Preschoolers can enjoy Earth Day Planting April 17 at Cinco Ranch and April 18 at Mason Road, both from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Kids will plant their own herbs. On April 16-18, Caterpillar Garden will take place for kids of any age, where they can adopt their own caterpillar and watch it turn into a butterfly! First 100 kids get caterpillars.
  • April 19, head to LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch for a free Cinema Under the Stars evening from 7 to 10 p.m. Enjoy food and fun, and then at dusk, ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ will show. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. This is free and open to the public!
  • Another running opportunity is coming up on April 21 at Cinco Ranch High School. Color for a Cause 5K will benefit The Arc of Katy, helping them rebuild their facility after Hurricane Harvey. The run will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. During the race, participants can throw and toss non-toxic colored corn starch in the air, so by the end of the race, everyone is all colorful!

This is quite the array of activities taking place in Katy, TX during the rest of April. Get out and enjoy yourself as a single, couple, family or group of friends. These are also great ways to meet others in the area if you recently relocated to Katy!

Ready for the spring season in Katy, TX? As your Katy real estate agent, I’m here to fill you in on events coming up in the next few weeks! So whether you’re looking to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Easter or just the changing of the seasons, check out this abundant list of upcoming events and activities in the Katy area.

  • Enjoy Spring Break Cinema at Central Green Park at LaCenterra by heading there for a free outdoor showing of ‘Moana’ tonight, March 14! Bring lawn chairs or a picnic blanket. The movie will begin at dusk.
  • Lucky Charm 5K takes place on Saturday, March 17, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day! Register early to save. On race day, head to Mo’s Irish Pub. The race will begin at 7:45 a.m. and 9 a.m. for the kids’ race. All racers will receive a finishers medal and t-shirt. Then enjoy an after party with food, drinks, music and more.
  • Continue to the St. Patrick’s Day Festival at Lucky’s Pub on March 17 in Katy! Doors open at 10 a.m. and they will have green beer, bagpipers, live entertainment all day, and great food. There are numerous ticket options, so see which one would interest you most!
  • Cane Island will host a St. Patrick’s Day event on March 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stop by anytime for Crafts & Crawfish! Browse and shop among more than 60 vendors with jewelry, clothing and more. Then, satisfy your appetite with crawfish and cold beer!
  • Chick-fil-A is hosting an Easter Family Night on March 27 at the Cinco Ranch location and March 28 at the Mason Road location. Each event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Families will make colorful paper eggs while sampling the New Seasonal Frosted Sunrise. Balloon animals and face painting will take place, as usual!
  • For preschoolers specifically, head to Chick-fil-A on March 27 or 28 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. for an Easter Party! Kids will decorate a salt dough Easter ornament with sparkle dough. Then, they can enjoy singing, dancing and Easter stories will other preschoolers.
  • Central Green Park at LaCenterra is hosting Journey Through China on March 31 at 2 p.m. Bring the whole family and enjoy authentic dancing as this nationally renowned group takes you through several regions of China with different forms of song and dance.
  • The Kenneth D. Welch Outdoor Learning Center will host a Katy Folk Life Festival on April 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.! See what life was like in Texas during the late 1800’s by experiencing life as a pioneer. See how they dressed and what they ate, and watch blacksmith demos, woodworking presentations and more.

Katy is a city located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 11,775 at the 2000 census.

Katy, suburb of Houston, Texas, is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the name Cane Island are believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major sugar cane producer and rice producer. To commermorate the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.

Katy was recently the location of one of the ten large red balloons in the DARPA Network Challenge on December 5, 2009. The balloon was stationed in Katy Park.

In 2009 the Gadberry Group named Katy as one of nine "9 from 2009" most notable high growth areas in the United States.
After a low income apartment complex was proposed for development in an adjacent unincorporated area, in 2010 the Katy City Council passed a resolution stating that the development would decrease property values.[5] The plans for the complex were canceled.
