Enjoy these Katy, TX attractions this summer!

Don’t let summer sneak by without visiting the best summertime attractions in Katy, TX! You’ve got many to choose from! As your Katy real estate agent, allow me to fill you in on some of the top attractions in the area. If I leave one out that is top on your list, leave a comment and share!

Here are a few not to be missed this summer:

  • Typhoon Texas is a huge water park right in Katy, TX. You could spend days enjoying all of the water attractions here, so it may be wise for locals to purchase season passes. They’ve got a wave pool, two-rider tube slides, slide boarding that is like a waterslide and a video game rolled into one, mini slides and splash pads for little kids, racing slides, large raft slides, body slides, lazy river and so much more.
  • Mary Jo Peckham Park is a great place to visit for family-friendly fun this summer! With 32 acres, you’re sure to find something to enjoy here. Stop by to play mini golf, walk on the trail along the lake, let the kids play at the playground, enjoy a picnic at the picnic tables, go swimming in the pool, go fishing off one of the piers, play disc golf and much more. There are lots of shade trees for hot days!
  • Central Green at LeCenterra at Cinco Ranch has summer events taking place all summer long! Upcoming events include live music on July 21, tai chi on July 22 and every Saturday, ‘Lilo & Stitch’ movie night on July 22, ‘The Good Dinosaur’ movie on July 28, ‘Monsters Inc.’ on July 29, and so on. Check the calendar often for added events and activities for families or adults to enjoy!
  • Cool off with a local brew from No Labels Brewing Co. in Katy, TX! This would make a great date night, or a great place for friends to go and catch up. Every Thursday, they have Yoga & Hops, and every Tuesday, they have a special Steak Night. The taproom is open most other days, so stop by to try their different beers or to take a tour!
  • The SplashPad at Directors Park in Katy is another great summertime attraction! Kids and adults enjoy cooling off in the various spray features available at this attraction. This is a great way to stay cool for free, and to meet others in the Katy community with children around your children’s age! There is also a large playground, swings, picnic tables, park benches and walking paths.

Mark Your Calendar with August Events in Katy, TX!

Do you feel like summer is flying by in Katy? August is the last month to enjoy summer events before the kids go back to school. Take advantage of the sun, heat and local festivities while you can! As your Katy real estate agent, I’ve put together this list of events taking place this month in the area. Mark your calendar with the ones that sound most fun to you!

  • The Katy Summer Tailgate will take place on August 13 from 2 to 10 p.m. in and around the Harvest Plaza! This a great way to conclude summer with an old-school street dance and pep rally. The Texas Twisters will provide tunes for the street dance. Enjoy a beer garden, the Taste of Katy from local restaurants, vendor and merchant booths, a fun zone for kids, a family picnic area, local performers and more. Bring school supplies or a backpack as your entry fee!
  • A Back-to-School Block Party will also take place on August 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those in need can stop by the Fellowship of Love Church for free health screenings, free haircuts, parent workshops, games, moonwalk, entertainment, food vendors and free backpacks with gift cards. If you can, donate to the cause beforehand, so children in need can get their backpacks before school.
  • On August 13, help raise money for the award-winning Taylor Band organization while also enjoying the music, pride and spirit they bring to the Katy community! The Taylor Band March-A-Thon will take place from 8 to 11 a.m., and then again from 12 to 4 p.m. They will help get the Katy community excited for the new school year by playing in neighborhoods surrounding Taylor High School.
  • Blast to the Past Cruise In will take place on August 13 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. If you love cars, you’ll love this event, where you can view over 1,000 cars! You can also enjoy music, photo shoots, raffles, giveaways, a kid’s zone, vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, snow cones and more.
  • Katy Market Day takes place on the third Saturday of every month! Shop amongst antiques, jewelry, art, crafts, gifts, soap, honey, clothing, hair accessories and more. This is a great place to purchase unique items while supporting local vendors in downtown Katy. Upcoming dates include Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Summer Events Coming Up in Katy, TX

Summer flies by once 4th of July weekend is over! Time to plan the rest of your month here in Katy, TX, to ensure you make the most of summer. To help you plan, as your Katy real estate agent, I’ve supplied you with a list of upcoming events to look forward to.

As a side note, thanks to everyone who voted in the Best of Katy survey from Katy Times! We were named one of the top three real estate firms in the area! We are so glad that we can provide satisfactory service to our buyer and seller clients. Making our clients happy is what keeps us going. Now here are upcoming events to look forward to in the Katy area:

  • Katy Summer Nights take place on the evening of the second Friday of June and July. If you missed the event in June, your second chance is this Friday, July 8! It begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m. Dress up as your favorite character from Back to the Future while enjoying activities, light snacks and photo prop opportunities. Then sit back and enjoy this family classic!
  • Bring your kids five and under to LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch on July 20 from 10 a.m. to noon for Parachute Play Time with Gymboree Play & Music. Kids can enjoy parachute play, bubbles and many other games and activities suitable for young children.
  • James Coney Island is celebrating their anniversary on July 21. Stop by for a $0.93 original coney (hot dog) between 10:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.
  • Sign your kids up for the Katy Keepers Academy July 25-29. They’ll learn about topics such as the importance of water, the benefits of recycling and much more. The camp is led by Keep Katy Beautiful and the Parks and Recreation Department. It takes place at VFW Hall and VFW Park.
  • If you are done with this summer heat, head to the Cinco Ranch Branch Library for a free movie in the air conditioning on July 29 at 12:30 p.m. Darth Vadar and the Galactic Empire will be shown in the multipurpose room. This is a great way to meet others in the Katy community!
  • Houston Family Magazine’s Summer Fun Fest is coming to LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch from 12 to 4 p.m. on July 31! Admissions and activities are all free, so gather the family for an afternoon of fun with inflatables, face painting, a rock wall, stage performances, music, prizes and more.

Load Up Your July Calendar with Katy Events!

You have many fun summer option in Katy, TX!

Fourth of July has come and gone, but don’t think for a moment that events and activities around Katy, TX have come to a halt! If anything, they’ve picked up their pace. As your Katy real estate agent, I am here to fill you in with the details on upcoming events around town! Pull out your calendar, jot down the events that sound most appealing to you, and head out to enjoy all that summer in Katy has to offer.

  • This Friday, July 10, gather the family and head to Heritage Plaza at 7 p.m. for Katy Summer Nights! Enjoy watching Hook! outdoors on a large inflatable screen while munching on free popcorn and other refreshments. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, and feel free to pack a picnic!
  • The Farmers Market in Cypress is every second Sunday of the month, which means it’s coming up this Sunday, July 12! Visit Bridgeland Landing between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. to purchase fresh produce, coffee, honey, baked goods and more from local providers. From 1 to 2 p.m., enjoy Mr. Clint’s Snake Show!
  • Sign up for Unplugged Adventure: Range Ride on Saturday, July 18 with the Katy Prairie Conservancy. Guests can ride their bikes on historic ranch roads while searching for wildlife, Texas icons and more. Cost is $5 per person and you must bring your own bike, water bottles, snacks and insect repellant.
  • Cycling enthusiasts can also sign up for the Katy Flatland Century Bike Ride taking place on Sunday, July 19! The Northwest Cycling Club will feature 28, 32, 56, 62 and 100-mile bike routes! Choose how far you want to ride and register. Registration includes a breakfast, a post-ride lunch and a t-shirt.
  • If running is more your thing, sign up for the Corner Store Country Run 5K on Saturday, July 25! This will take place at Great Southwest Equestrian Center, and everyone from serious runners to leisurely strollers can sign up. Wear your best country duds and stick around after the race for swag, live music, food, carnival games, face painting and much more. Proceeds go to a great cause!

Katy is a city located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 11,775 at the 2000 census.

Katy, suburb of Houston, Texas, is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the name Cane Island are believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major sugar cane producer and rice producer. To commermorate the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.

Katy was recently the location of one of the ten large red balloons in the DARPA Network Challenge on December 5, 2009. The balloon was stationed in Katy Park.

In 2009 the Gadberry Group named Katy as one of nine "9 from 2009" most notable high growth areas in the United States.
After a low income apartment complex was proposed for development in an adjacent unincorporated area, in 2010 the Katy City Council passed a resolution stating that the development would decrease property values.[5] The plans for the complex were canceled.
