Bullritos

Trader Joe’s
LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch

– Trader Joe’s is a quickly growing national chain that provides some of the best in fresh, domestic and imported foods at a fraction of the cost.  This specialty store will be opening at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, although the exact date and number of jobs this will provide hasn’t yet been announced.  One of the reasons Trader Joe’s is able to cut costs is by purchasing many items from manufacturers instead of distributors.

Trader Joe’s also provides their own line of Trader Joe’s products that are often free from preservatives and other artificial ingredients.  You’ll be able to find everything from your basics like milk and bread to unique, imported items that you can’t find anywhere else!  If Trader Joe’s is new to you, you can always check out their locations in Houston and get excited about the Katy store opening!

As you can see, Katy TX keeps growing and adding great features for its residents!

Exciting News for Katy Independent School District!

As a Katy TX Real Estate agent, I enjoy highlighting to potential buyers, all that Katy TX has to offer.  This rapidly growing city just west of Houston, has become a hot spot for those looking for the convenience of the suburban lifestyle and the amenities of a big city.

A few months ago, I talked about the extensive growth to Katy TX and the need for expanding the roads.  And, with any thriving city, that’s not the only thing that’s being affected by the increase in activity!  In fact, there’s great news for new families moving to the area because Katy ISD will be welcoming a new high school to the area this fall!

I love talking with families about the Katy TX education system because it is such an asset to those living in the area.  Tom Gunnell, chief operations officer with Katy ISD noted, “The district has been among the fastest growing in the United States over the first decade of the 21st century in which it grew by 76 percent.”

In the 2011-12 school year alone, 1,840 new students enrolled in the district, and the school continues to expand!  In  fact, if the growth continues as it has been, in five years, the district will reach 75,500 students.  It’s this growth that is bringing excitement to the area and creating the need for an additional high school.  Planners see that the southwest quadrant of the district as the ideal location for the new school, which has yet to be named.

This project, which will cost approximately $137 million, will house only freshman and sophomores this coming fall.  “It will then grow to a full service high school as those students become seniors,” said Steve Stanford, director of communications with the school district.  The school is projecting a number of 865 students in its’ first year and will have an enrollment of 3,251 students by 2017

To learn more about this new school in Katy TX, please visit the Katy ISD website.

It’s an exciting time in Katy TX and if you are considering moving to the area; I would love to assist you in your Katy home search!  There are a number of beautiful homes in the area, and new properties coming on the market each week!  As a Katy TX Real Estate agent, I would enjoy working with you in each step of the home buying process, from starting your search to signing the contract!

Welcome in the New Year with a Look at Katy’s Historic Past!

It’s exciting that we’ve entered into a new year!  I hope you all had a great holiday season and are enjoying the first few days of 2013.  As a Katy TX Real Estate agent, I love to reflect back on the past year and all that took place.  One of the things that I’m truly thankful for as I look back is something that I know will always be a highlight of the year is the chance to live in a place like Katy TX!

For those of you who’ve grown up in Katy or who have lived here for even just a year, you’re well aware of the excellent quality of life that Katy has to offer.  If you’re visiting this site to learn more about Katy TX in hopes of making it your new home; I’d like to welcome you and let you know you’re in for a treat!

Buying a home in Katy is something  many have looked forward to since the first settlers came to Katy in the mid-1800’s.  At the time, there was nothing more to Katy than a large prairie with roaming buffalo, cattle and deer.  In fact, when the settlers first arrived, they called the area Cane Island named for the cane-break filled creek that still runs through it today.  However, by the time the railroad came through in 1895, people had begun calling the area Katy and by 1898 with the addition of the train depot; Katy TX was a flourishing city that drew many to build their American dream on its’ land.

Katy is rich in historic charm, and if you’d like to learn more about Katy and its history; I’d encourage you to take part in the Historic Homes tour!  Of course, as a Katy Real Estate agent, I’m drawn towards the beautiful homes that are throughout Katy and the Historic Homes Tour is a really fantastic way to see some of the gems of Katy.  Here are a few more details!

Historic Homes Tour
Katy Heritage Park
5990 George Bush Dr., Katy

Saturday, January 5 through Sunday, January 6

– This free tour takes place the first weekend of every month and is open to the public!  Learn Katy history during tour of homes, exhibits, and displays. Open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday. For more information call 281-391-2550 to speak with one of the docents.

I hope you’re able to get out and enjoy this tour that will give you greater insight into the history of Katy.  It’s a great way to start out the year whether you’ve lived here for years or want to discover more about the area.

As always, I’d love to talk with you more if you have questions about living in Katy TX or the current Katy Real Estate market. There are a number of beautiful homes currently available in Katy TX from which to choose, so feel free to contact me anytime to get started!

Katy is a city located in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller Counties in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 11,775 at the 2000 census.

Katy, suburb of Houston, Texas, is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the name Cane Island are believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major sugar cane producer and rice producer. To commermorate the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.

Katy was recently the location of one of the ten large red balloons in the DARPA Network Challenge on December 5, 2009. The balloon was stationed in Katy Park.

In 2009 the Gadberry Group named Katy as one of nine "9 from 2009" most notable high growth areas in the United States.
After a low income apartment complex was proposed for development in an adjacent unincorporated area, in 2010 the Katy City Council passed a resolution stating that the development would decrease property values.[5] The plans for the complex were canceled.
