Here is a fun fact to drop at the cookout: this Fourth of July is not just any Fourth. 2026 is the Semiquincentennial, America’s 250th birthday, and the whole country is treating it like the milestone it is. Even better, July 4 lands on a Saturday this year, so you get a full long weekend to make it count.
I pulled this together three ways, because not every celebration calls for the same level of effort. Tier one, the shows close to home you can roll out to in flip-flops. Tier two, the Texas events worth gassing up the car for. And tier three, the bucket-list spectaculars worth booking a flight. Pick your altitude and let’s go. From your own backyard in Katy to skies clear across the country, this year we are going the distance.

Close to Home: Katy and Surrounding Houston Areas
No flights, no hotels, no fuss. These are the hometown shows lighting up Katy, Sugar Land, Richmond, Rosenberg, Cypress, and right next door.
Katy Freedom Celebration at Typhoon Texas
The City of Katy’s signature celebration takes over Typhoon Texas with a full day of waterpark fun, live music, and a big fireworks finale at 9 PM. Grab a swimsuit and make a day of it.
Red, White and Boom at Constellation Field, Sugar Land
The Space Cowboys host this one at the ballpark with live music, inflatables, face painting, the splash pad, and a Texas-sized fireworks show timed to patriotic music. This year it leans into the nation’s 250th in a big way. Tickets start around $14, kids 3 and under are free, and Sugar Land residents can claim up to four complimentary tickets while supplies last.
Rosenberg Family 4th Celebration
A free, family-first festival with food vendors, live music, and fireworks after dark in a pretty nature park setting. Bring the lawn chairs.
Liberty on the Brazos, Simonton and Fulshear
An easy, free choice for my Richmond and Fulshear neighbors. Think live bands, a classic car show, a kids zone, food trucks, and fireworks once the sun goes down.
Tomball July 4th Celebration and Street Fest
For my Cypress and Cy-Fair families on the northwest side, this is your closest hometown party. A street festival, vendors, food, and fireworks, all a short hop up the road.
Shell Freedom Over Texas, Downtown Houston
If you want the big one without leaving the metro, this is it. Now in its 39th year, Houston’s marquee celebration brings six hours of live music, lawn games, and kids zones, capped by a Texas-sized fireworks show choreographed to music, with a special nod to America’s 250th. It is ticketed, but kids get a break, and it is televised if you would rather watch from the couch in the AC. No judgment here. It is July in Houston.
- Missouri City hosts a free patriotic celebration with carnival games, live music, and a fireworks finale.
- Texas City lights up Bay Street Park with fireworks over the water, synced to music through a free phone app.
- Galveston runs its Seawall parade in the evening, then fireworks right off the beach. Hard to beat fireworks over the Gulf.
Worth the Texas Road Trip
Pack a cooler and point the car. These are the Lone Star showstoppers that earn the drive, and a few are legendary for a reason.
Addison Kaboom Town, Dallas Area
If Texas has one fireworks show with true legend status, this is it. USA Today ranks it among the best in the entire country, it draws around half a million people, and the roughly 30-minute display is synced to music with aviation flyovers beforehand. Here is the smart part: it runs on July 3, so you can road-trip up for Kaboom Town and still be home for a relaxed Fourth.
Austin: Two Icons, One Weekend
Austin’s Star-Spangled Fest takes over Auditorium Shores and the Long Center, where the Austin Symphony plays patriotic favorites before fireworks light up over Lady Bird Lake and double in the reflection on the water. Want something more legendary? Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic returns to the Germania Insurance Amphitheater with a stacked lineup this year, a Texas tradition running more than five decades strong.
Fort Worth and Dallas Headliners
Fort Worth’s Panther Island Pavilion throws the largest fireworks display in DFW, a free riverfront festival with live country music, tubing, and water shows on the Trinity. Over in Dallas, Fair Park Fourth is a free celebration where you can watch the fireworks from inside the historic Cotton Bowl.
San Antonio
The city’s official party at Woodlawn Lake Park brings food trucks, carnival games, live music, and fireworks over the lake. Theme-park fans can add SeaWorld’s nightly summer fireworks or Six Flags Fiesta Texas Star-Spangled Nights to the trip.
- Granbury sets fireworks over Lake Granbury with a historic downtown square that comes alive for the holiday.
- New Braunfels hosts its annual fireworks spectacular over Landa Park.
- Round Top claims the longest continuous Fourth of July tradition west of the Mississippi, dating back to 1851. Population 87, heart the size of Texas.
- Fredericksburg and Marble Falls round out the Hill Country with classic small-town celebrations.
Fly the Flag, Fly the Country
For the 250th, a handful of cities are going all out in a way we will not see again in our lifetimes. If you have ever wanted a bucket-list Fourth, this is the year to book the flight.
Philadelphia: The Birthplace
There is no more meaningful place to mark 250 years than where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Philadelphia’s Wawa Welcome America runs a full 16 days with six nights of fireworks, the most in its history. July 3 brings the largest professionally produced Semiquincentennial parade in the country, rolling past Independence Hall. Then July 4 closes with the free One Philly Unity Concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, featuring Christina Aguilera, Jill Scott, The Roots, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, and more, capped by fireworks over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Washington, D.C.: The National Mall
If one place is built for a 250th birthday, it is the nation’s capital. Expect the National Independence Day Parade down Constitution Avenue, the Great American State Fair on the Mall running late June into July, and a major fireworks show rising behind the Washington Monument and the Capitol. Watching the sky light up over those landmarks is about as American as it gets.
New York City: A Double Milestone
America turns 250 the same year Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks turn 50, and the city is going enormous. This year’s show launches from both the Hudson and East rivers plus the Brooklyn Bridge, with more than 60,000 effects. Add Sail4th 250, a tall ship parade with more than 50 ships from around the world sailing into the harbor with the Statue of Liberty as the backdrop, plus a Blue Angels flyover. Cannot get there? It airs on NBC and Peacock from 8 to 10 PM.
Boston: History and the Pops
One of the country’s most beloved traditions, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular pairs a free outdoor concert with fireworks and drones over the Charles River. Walk the Freedom Trail by day, catch the show by night. Old-school New England Fourth, done right.
- San Francisco is planning a rare fireworks display from the Golden Gate Bridge itself, a true one-off for the 250th. Bring a jacket, the bay gets chilly after dark.
- Mount Rushmore brings fireworks back to the monument on July 3, a rare patriotic display over the faces in the Black Hills.
- Nashville stacks live music, the Nashville Symphony, drones, and fireworks downtown.
- Tampa pairs a 250-drone light show with a waterfront fireworks finale over the river.
One quick reminder before the sparklers come out
The booms are beautiful for us and terrifying for the four-legged crowd. Bring outdoor pets inside, preferably to an interior room, make sure their tags and microchip info are current, and leave them home rather than bringing them to the show. Future you, the one not posting a lost-dog flyer on July 5, will be grateful.
Wherever you watch, watch it big this year
Two-hundred-fifty years only comes around once. Whether you are floating in the lazy river at Typhoon Texas, tailgating Kaboom Town, or standing on the National Mall, this is a Fourth worth remembering.
